RIPE’s Wireline Packer Testing Equipment System is the ideal tool for isolating sections of a borehole. Once isolated, injection (Lugeon) testing can be conducted to determine hydraulic conductivity and the formations permeability. Our Wireline Packer Testing Systems are optimized for shallow as well as deep testing in conjunction with diamond core drilling. Available to suit NQ, HQ and PQ sized cored boreholes and can be deployed in single or straddle/double configuration to test formation transmissivity in large or more specific zones.
The single packer configuration is designed for testing cored holes whilst drilling progresses to greater depths. When a zone of interest is identified in the retrieved core sample, the drill rods are moved back, so that packer testing can commence. Packers are deployed and inflated one in the bit and the other in the open hole above the zone of interest. Once the packers are inflated either hydraulically using a water pump for shallow depths or pneumatically using a nitrogen gas supply for greater depths, the zone is isolated. Permeability testing can then begin by injecting water at varying pressures and recording corresponding flow rates for analysis. Injection pressure can be controlled via a bypass system on the flowmeter board provided.
The straddle or double packer configuration is designed for testing specific zones of cored holes, once drilling to the total depth is complete. When a zone of interest is identified in the retrieved core sample, the drill rods are moved so that the test packer equipment can be inflated straddling the zone of interest. Once the packers are inflated either hydraulically using a water pump for shallow depths or pneumatically using a nitrogen gas supply for greater depths, testing can commence by injecting water at varying pressures and recording corresponding flow rates for analysis. Injection pressure can be controlled via a bypass system on the flowmeter board provided.
